As reported on yesterday Moog is bringing Animoog to BlackBerry 10, here’s a video run through:
Next up on our BlackBerry Live 2013 stage is Moog. they’re bringing a high-quality synthesizer app to BlackBerry 10 geared towards professional and avid amateur musicians alike. The vast majority of the music jargon was well over my head, so let’s let the official app feature list do the talking.
- Anisotropic Synth Engine (ASE) – An exciting new Moog technology that allows the user to move dynamically through an X/Y space of unique timbres to create an expressive and constantly evolving soundscape.
- Timbre page – Assemble unique sounds in the X/Y space from timbres of a wide variety of vintage and modern Moog synthesizers and pedals Note: this is NOT simple sample playback.
- Polyphonic Modulation – Simply slide your fingers to control multiple modulation parameters in Animoog right from the keys.
- Polyphonic Pitch Shifting – Easily manipulate the exact pitch of each note in a chord by rotating or sliding your fingers.
- Delay Module – A classic analog style ping pong delay.
- Thick Module – From bit crushing to unison voice detuning and drive, this module adds depth, edge and character to Animoog’s already massive sound palette.
- Moog Filter – The classic four-pole Moog ladder filter with High Pass, Low Pass and Band Pass modes.
- Record Module – Record your performance and overdub new layers, or play along live. Transfer recordings between Animoog and any other apps that support Copy/Paste
- Path Module – Direct ASE through Animoog’s X/Y space to create new expressive and shifting sounds that will blow your mind!
- Orbit Module – Control the rate of orbit in the X/Y space around the path you created for subtle to insane voice manipulation.
- Flexible Modulation Matrix – Amp, Filter and Mod Envelopes, LFO with infinitely variable wave shapes and sync, and four super flexible and assignable modulation slots.
- MIDI in/out – Use your Little Phatty or any other MIDI controller to control Animoog.
When Animoog launches in the next couple of weeks, it will be available for $0.99 for a limited time, then get bumped up to a $9.99 regular price. This is pretty awesome, considering an actual dedicated device that does this kind of synthesizer costs more than a BlackBerry Z10 would

Getting started with mSequencer
Here is a tutorial on how to get started with mSequencer (MIDI Pattern Sequencer). In this video I use mSequencer to control all 8 channels of Korg’s iPolySix via virtual midi. This video doesn’t even begin to touch what a great app this is. If there is interest in it, I will definitely be making more videos on some of the more advanced procedures you can use as well as a lot of other options I couldn’t get to in this video.
I highly recommend using an external midi controller with this app to build your sequences.
Conclusion: This is an excellent app for anyone wanting to program midi sequences and send them to apps via virtual midi. It gives you a larger range of control then any other sequencer app I have ever used. This app does not support Audiobus but it definitely should. Well worth it’s price.

MR-808 – mechanic drum robot
Let’s get physical: MR-808 is the first drum robot that reproduces the drum sounds of the 80s – in the real world.
The robot installation MR-808 is a replica of the famous 1980s electronic drum machine TR-808 – with robots playing the drum sounds! I (Moritz Simon Geist) have been playing electronic music for several years now, and at some place I was bored of the electronic music production process. With binary logic, everything is possible.
So I decided to go back to the roots of sound generation – the physical sound generation – but combine it with the electronic music structure we like so much.
I liked the idea so much, that I couldn’t stop building my own drum robots, and ended up replacing all the electronic sounds of a whole drum computer, placed in a 3,3 x 1,7m² case. I am very proud to present the “MR-808” – a mechanic replica of the famous 1980s electronic drum machine TR-808!

PPG WaveMapper is the second next-generation iOS based synth from Wolfgang Palm, who in 2012 released the PPG WaveGenerator to critical acclaim from both press and public.
In final development the PPG WaveMapper offers iPad users a second synthesiser to compliment the already loved PPG WaveGenerator from Wolfgang Palm. PPG WaveMapper allows the user the opportunity to create limitless sounds from this unique and powerful new technology.
PPG WaveMapper features the Sound Map, which maps the various sounds in a way to easily access and experiment with them, more importantly the PPG WaveMapper features a new synthesis system which maps the waveforms of a sound into a new kind of wavetable which preserves the sound characteristics better than classic Wavetable synthesis and at the same time allows for the manipulations which make WT synthesis so unique.
The Mapping window is the visualisation of a pool of programs on which “modules” float. Those modules represent certain parameters of the synthesiser engine and each module can be placed on one of 32 programs. The moment an item is placed on map then the parameters of that module will take on the settings of those parameters in the underlying program on the Mapping window.

Super Synthesis’ “Super37” Powered Euro Case and Keyboard

The keyboard feels excellent to play and is velocity sensitive, it’s very portable, and it has midi out. The onboard midi sends out polyphonic data as well!
It includes one module that allows for switching octaves, velocity out, trig,gate, and of course volt per ocatve out. The modules single LED bulb also indicates the amount of velocity being sent from the keyboard by how luminous it is. And last but not least it can slew voltage from the keyboard to create glide effects.

Animoog on Blackberry
Blackberry has announced that Moog is now official on the BB10 platform
Amongst the flurry of announcements this morning at BlackBerry Live in Orlando, CEO Thorsten Heins finally made good on an app promise from this past January. Yes, Skype is now available on the Z10. Users that want to make VoIP calls will have to upgrade to the latest iteration of the platform, BB10.1, in order to download the preview from BB World. Additionally, Heins also told attendees that Moog will be bringing its synthesizer app Animoog, previously exclusive to iOS, to the BB10 platform starting today. So, slowly, but steadily BlackBerry’s following through on its vision to make BB10 a robust developer-friendly OS.
