Sinevibes Sequential: working the amen break
http://youtu.be/IABPDlaLTv0
Tweaking and destroying the classic “amen break” with the Sinevibes Sequential effect sequencer plugin. Sequential is available as an AudioUnit plug for Mac. You can read more about it here: http://www.sinevibes.com/sequential
Sequential is an AudioUnit plugin for creating amazing rhythmical effect patterns. It features unique algorithms ranging from filters, waveshapers and distortion, to ring modulation and even audio-controlled oscillators. These effects are rhythmically switched via a step sequencer matrix, allowing you to create intricate, lively processing patterns. Sequential has been finely tuned to instantly deliver superb musical results, and is capable of radical sound transformations with any type of sound or music style.
Features
- Ten effect algorithms: low-pass and high-pass filters, two waveshape transformers, saturation, bit and sample rate reduction, sine oscillator with envelope follower, ring modulator and variable noise.
- Sequencer matrix with up to 32 steps, variable speed and swing.
- Intuitive, high-contrast user interface.
- Useful preset templates.
Ghost Rider Modular
Mr. Hand demos a synthesizers.com patch utilizing a CatGirl Synth Sub Octave Divider module. The sequence is a facsimile of Suicide’s song Ghost Rider done with a Synthesizers.com Q119 Sequential Controller. It’s not the complete riff since Marty Rev’s riff is poly-rhythmic and I could only use 8 steps of the analog sequencer. The organ-like tonality is from the CGS Sub-Octave module which can function similarly to the divide down technology used in electric organs.

iOS – SoundMashine and an Addictive microSynth
Simple and basic, but serves its purpose
SoundMashine granular synthesis based sound sampler and sequencer app for iphone 4 ipad 2, sound sequencer
SoundMashine is a granular synthesis based sound sampling and sequencing instrument.
Fully utilising touch gestures to provide a fast and easy to use compositional tool. The app records sound using the devices built-in microphone, then divides the sound into slices which are then automatically assigned to each of the 16 screen tiles. Each tile has its own set of parameters allowing you to adjust window size, playback rate, pitch, feedback, delay and delay modulation, all of which are easily set by the swipe of a finger. Each parameter listed can also be randomised between a set of assignable values. Using the sequencer function patterns of tiles can be recorded and played back at different speeds, again using simple touch gestures.
With its flexibility for working with sound at different pitches, rates and sequencer speeds, SoundMashine lends itself well to a variety of compositional paradigms, from beat based through to drone or noise based music forms.
Combines the synthesis power of Addictive Synth with an easy to use 4 track loop recorder. It was never so easy to create beautiful sounds and driving loops.
The unique dynamic wavetable synthesis allows you to explore an unprecedented wide range of sonic territory. From acid loops, crystal clear percussions, realistic human choirs to complex musical soundscapes nothing seems impossible with only a handful parameters to tweak.
Image Line Groove Machine Available Now
More info – http://www.image-line.com/documents/groovemachine.html
Groove Machine is a virtual groove box designed with live performance or composition in mind, or use it as a synthesizer/drum-machine combination.
Groove Machine is virtual ‘Groove Box’ within your sequencer, perfect for live performance or use it as a hybrid synthesizer, drum sampler or to create loops.
Get the groove happening
Groove Machine’s power lies in its ability to automate every parameter of the sampler, synth and effects channels on a PER-step basis.
Get a groove happening quickly and trigger samples, loops and bars/patterns on the fly from your MIDI controller or DAW software.
Focused to live performance.
Image Line recommend a MIDI controller if you want to control Groove Machine live. However, it’s still possible to use Groove Machine with a computer mouse and keyboard, just less efficient.
Groove Machine features:
- 5 hybrid (Subtractive/FM) synthesizer channels
- 8 flexible sampler channels, each with 4 sample layers
- 10 DJ-style effects + EQ and Stutter PER channel.
- Stepsequencer with per-step automation allowing PER step note sculpting of all interface parameters.
- Step / Drum sequencer / Piano roll views
- Optimized for live performance
- Internal link system for maximum compatibility with all MIDI controllers
- Multiple independent outputs for the 5 synth & 8 sampler channels
- Ideal for dub-step, trance, house & hip-hop producers
- Available in VSTi, AU & Standalone
You can check out the manual and Groove Machine YouTube video play-list to get up to speed on what Groove Machine can do for you.

Kinetic – Played live Korg EMX, IPad Sunrizer, IPad ModAxis, FutureRetro Revolution
Cool video featuring a lot of blinking lights, blips and machines in action, enjoy
Korg EMX sequencing IPad Sunrizer for Pads, IPad also used to provide spacey effects with ModAxis app. Acid is on the FutureRetro Revolution.
“The Revolution is our latest concept synthesizer with an intuitive interface that we feel most accurately represents the principles of time and music. From ancient sundials to modern day analog clocks, time has been represented as the circle, a cycle which never ends. Time itself is nothing more than our perception of the revolution of planets as they journey through their celestial orbit. It is this motion that we call time that can be measured, divided, and arranged to provide the foundation of music. This circular cyclic theme can furthermore be found throughout music in everything from song structure and repeating rhythms to the fundamentals of sound itself, being the sine wave. With this understanding we must conclude that music is cyclic and should so be represented in its natural form.
And so it is…the Revolution, a true analog monophonic synthesizer with an easy to use step-based digital sequencer, analog and DSP effects processing, and various interfacing for controlling MIDI, CV/Gate, and Din Sync devices.
Continuing in our tradition of building quality products, this unit is housed in a rugged aluminum chassis with aluminum side panels, a high contrast white on gun metal grey finish for superior viewing of controls in dark environments, and bright blue LEDs all around.”

Background information:
A little bit about me: I’ve worked as an animator, flash developer and art director over the last 10 years in London, UK – mainly for digital ad agencies (some previous work here: www.happylander.co.uk). Around about June last year I pretty much quit advertising work (before my soul was lost completely in the desolate mire of micro-sites and adver-games!) and took some time out to make stuff for myself – mainly based around music and playful interaction.
Isle of Tune came from a desire to make a different kind of music sequencer along the lines of http://lab.andre-michelle.com/tonematrix or the Reactable – but with less of an abstract feel and a little more game-like and social. Since it went live in December there has been over 60,000 islands made
with some properly creative tunes in there eg. http://isleoftune.com/?id=63320 or http://isleoftune.com/?id=48359Over the last few months I’ve been making updates from user requests – mainly to the way you can browse, search and view rated islands, it seems a lot of visitors come by just to check out the islands other people have made!
I’m currently working with a talented chap – Stuart Middleton – a developer since the days of the Spectrum (and now runs a small app dev company at www.abstractalien.com) who is converting the Isle of Tune codefor various mobile platforms and also helping me take it beyond what I could online with the limitations of flash. My far-fetched dream with the app is to be able to fund further development and allow me to make more stuff like this in the future without having to go back to the world of advertising!
