Propellerhead Software has announced Record, a new recording software for Windows and Mac.

Picture1

Record is Propellerhead Software’s brand new recording software. Record gives you unlimited audio tracks, world class effects and mixing gear, and a whole new take on music recording.

With an intuitive, straightforward interface and a hands-on approach to capturing performances, Record was designed for musicians – not audio engineers. This is recording done right.

Record features

* Multi-core — Record makes use of extremely efficient multi-core audio rendering, making the software very lightweight, even with large projects. Record’s dynamic multi-core audio rendering improves performance without introducing any latency. It is future proof, making use of as many processors or processor cores as your operating system can handle.

* Plenty of ins and outs — More ins and outs than you can shake a wand, baton or even a cane at. Got a multi-channel audio interface? With Record you can use up to 64 input channels simultaneously – and up to 64 simultaneous output channels. Should you ever feel the need.

* Works with any audio interface — Record’s rock solid audio implementation will support any audio card with Core Audio drivers on Mac OS X or ASIO drivers on Windows.

* Big Meter — Big Meter sits at the top of Record’s leftmost rack and gives you a detailed view of your input and output levels with plenty of different options for visualizing your performance, or for guidance when mastering your finished song.

* 64-bit mix bus — Record’s mixing console uses a 64-bit mix bus, resulting in high precision channel summing for highest possible audio quality.

* Reason integration — If you have Reason registered and installed on your computer, all your favorite Reason devices will automatically be available within Record’s ever-expandable, multiple racks. No setting up. It just works. Read more about Reason integration.

* ReWire synth application — Use Record as a ReWire slave. Record interfaces with most audio applications on the market through Propellerhead Software’s ReWire technology. ReWire is a virtual multi-cable that handles up to 64 channels of streaming audio, as well as MIDI, sync and transport controls between applications.

New awesome (and free) plug-in – Erectifier

March 12, 2009 · Posted in Electronic Music · 1 Comment

Without doing any associations on the name :-) I am happy to announce that my friends in Rusty Trombones has released a new and intriguing plug-in adn better yet it’s free.

Since I have not had the chance to try it out myself yet it would be nice to get some feedback on it so post away >> awesome or sucks

Listen to it here: mp3 sample

So what does it do really…??
So this works as a doubler, or demented phaser, it is designed to widen and phatten. Of course you can misuse that as well. you have an LFO that controls how long back an echo is. You can set the length and speed of this LFO. Then there is a filter that can be LowPass, HighPass or Allpass, and a cut Hz so that you can control where the cut is. oh-yeah!. The distortion is to gritt up the sound a little, or a lot, it’s not the worlds bestest distortion. Then you can amplify the signal, if you want to. The filter can cut away a lot of the volume, that’s why we have it. Then finally there is a on/off. There are two to the left side and two on the right side. and finally one dry through parameter. So if you’d like to test one of your settings, turn the other three off (via on/off parameter) and then tweak away, baby. There are a few presets (yeah, we didn’t feel like making a lot of them, so we forced that shuriken.se guy to make a random-function and make a lot of presets there).

AudioMulch 2.0 Revealed

February 25, 2009 · Posted in Electronic Music · Comments Off on AudioMulch 2.0 Revealed

AudioMulch 2.0 is not just a new version, it is the next generation of AudioMulch. It will provide a foundation for a new cycle of feature development and improvements that will be rolled out in regular updates after the 2.0 release. AudioMulch has long been a cult favorite for people wanting to patch together unusual sonic tools and performance rigs. That puts it in a category with apps like Reaktor or Max/MSP, but unlike those tools, AudioMulch has a lot of stuff built for you already.

New in version 2.0:

  • An all-new UI, built from the ground up, with drag-and-drop patching and faster MIDI control and parameter access
  • Gray is out; black is in.
  • Dockable windows stretch across multiple screens.
  • Up to 2X performance efficiency increase
  • Patchable MIDI routing, finally – so MIDI matches up with the power of audio in the first version
  • Metasurface, tempo, and transport can now be controlled by MIDI and automated
  • Complex time signature support, automated time signature changes, additive meters
  • Improved support for consumer multichannel audio (see note below)
  • Startup enabling of audio, MIDI, networking

More good stuff from NAMM – Automap 3

February 18, 2009 · Posted in Electronic Music · Comments Off on More good stuff from NAMM – Automap 3

image

Automap 3 was announced at Winter NAMM 2009 and is now available. As of this release there are now 2 versions, free and pay.

Automap 3 is the latest incarnation of Novation’s intelligent software system. Automap is unique to Novation’s MIDI controllers, and has now been enhanced with a wealth of eagerly anticipated features. Until now Automap had focused on plug-in control, but exciting developments bring a new level of DAW control…

No matter what music software you use, Automap offers an instant controlling solution for all your plug-ins. It supports VST, AU and Pro Tools (TDM/RTAS) plug-in formats (TDM/RTAS support is currently Mac only. PC will follow soon). It allows hardware controllers to interact with plug-in instruments and effects. Opening up any Automappable plug-in instantly maps parameters to physical controls on Novation’s SL- and Nocturn controllers. These can be re-assigned using an ultra-quick ‘learn’ mode, which simply involves clicking the on-screen parameter and touching the desired hardware controller. In addition to DAW control templates on board the SL range (mixer, transport etc) Automap 3 comes with full HUI implementation for control of HUI compatible DAWs such Logic, Pro Tools and Digital Performer.

Automap 3? (FREE DOWNLOAD)

  • HUI – HUI control is now fully implemented within Automap, allowing control over all HUI compatible DAW’s including Logic, Pro Tools and Digital Performer. This includes control over volume, pan, aux sends, track arm, mute/solo and more…
  • Start-up Screen – A new start-up screen now makes managing your plug-ins and setting up your DAW even easier. It also gives you one-click access to online support, tutorials and the latest updates.
  • Automap 3 PRO is now available to purchase for £19.99 / $29.99 / 24.99 EU, direct from the estore, and has a number of benefits over STANDARD.

    • Multiple device support – Automap 3 Pro supports multiple devices, so numerous Novation controllers can be used side by side.
    • Keystroke Assignments – Automap 3 Pro can assign almost any computer keyboard shortcuts to hardware controls. For example arrow key functions can now be assigned to hardware controls, allowing you to flick between tracks using buttons on your SL/Nocturn. You could also zoom in and out, open windows or create and jump to markers in your DAW.
    • XY Pad Control – Fully Auto-mappable XY Pad control, expression pedal, control pedal and drum pad control. The Automap server can now assign parameters to all these controllers using the ultra-quick learn facility. (Pedal/pad control not supported by SL Compact)
    • Drag and Drop – You can now drag and drop control mappings and control map groups in the GUI, allowing you to re-assign knobs, faders and buttons by simply grabbing them with the mouse and dropping them on the new controller.
    • Autoview Mode – Optional Autoview mode means that the GUI only becomes visible when a controller is touched, then it disappears again allowing you to get back to your DAW.

    Launch of Waldorf Largo

    January 19, 2009 · Posted in Electronic Music · 1 Comment

Waldorf have released Largo, their first ever software instrument. It’s a synthesizer that the developers say features the same kinds of sounds as the Blofeld and Q hardware synths, giving the user a diverse sonic palette, from complex pads to screaming leads.

    Largo Screenshot

Many producers and synthesizer enthusiasts asked for a full-blown Waldorf Synthesizer for their virtual rack. So have I, and now  Largo. Largo is the first pure software synthesizer with Waldorf DNA. And again – it is the cutting edge sound that makes the big difference.

Largo has three oscillators with a variety of waveforms that include shapes from the PPG and Wave hardware synths. Two multi-mode filters can be used in parallel or series, and each has a drive section and can self-oscillate. There are three LFOs, one of which has a step sequencer-style waveshape arpeggiator generator, and there’s a selection of effects, including chorus, flanger, phaser, overdrive and delay. Largo runs as a plug-in inside VST and Audio Units hosts.

Also new from Waldorf is the Blofeld Keyboard, a version of their Blofeld desktop synthesizer in keyboard form. It’s got 49 semi-weighted keys, a USB port for connection to a computer, and MIDI input and output. Other keyboard-only features include pitch-bend and modulation wheels, octave up and down buttons, an assignable button marked ‘free’, and a sustain pedal input. For more information, visit the Waldorf web site.

E-MU Systems announces the Emulator X3 Streaming Sampling Synthesizer, which offers both 32-bit and native 64-bit applications, multi-processor and multi-threading support. X3 also does away with the E-MU hardware lock, so feel free to defiantly hurl your dongle into the nearest body of water.

E-MU’s Emulator® X3 is the world’s most powerful and complete software sampling tool in the world, featuring E-MU’s new Xstream™ streaming sound engine with a up to 192kHz sampling and playback, 32-bit and 64-bit native applications for both Windows XP and Windows Vista, an arsenal of automated sampling/beat analysis/editing tools and almost unlimited sound manipulation that builds on E-MU’s 35 years of synthesis experience.

With Emulator X3, you reap the benefits of E-MU’s Xstream streaming sound engine with up to 192 kHz sampling and playback, a range of tools for analyzing and editing samples and beats and so much sound manipulation that the only limit is your imagination.

Also new in X3 is the Region Xplode Beat Slicer. This feature turns your drum recordings into MIDI files. Xplode takes a selected region, generates new voices and maps new regions to MIDI notes. TwistaLoop analyzes and exports a song’s Tempo Map. This allows users to synchronize rhythm tracks to performances recorded off a click.

Finally, the Xtractor is an audio manipulation tool new to X3 that cuts or boosts audio levels in regards to stereo positioning and frequency. It’s easy as pie to remove, isolate or pitch shift specific parts like vocal lines, basses and more. It also provides visual display for each instrument as to where it lies in stereo space.
