Simple Minds go on ‘Greatest Hits Live’ UK tour
Perhaps slightly more modest announcement than the one from Depeche Mode yesterday, but if you are keen on Simple minds this one might be for you (one might only hope that Greatest Hits means beyond there recent five or six crappy albums, and that they might reach back to their electronic roots):
Simple Minds will be performing their greatest hits live next year on a huge 28 date tour of the UK. Tickets have partially gone on sale right here.
Simple Minds will be releasing their greatest hits collection “Celebrate” in March to coincide with the tour. The compilation will include 2 new tracks.

Ableton Live + Nintendo Power Glove: Meet Controllerist Yeuda Ben-Atar aka Side Brain

Los Angeles-based producer and controllerist Yeuda Ben-Atar (better known as electronic music performer and beatmaker Side Brain) recently stopped by Dubspot NYC to explain and demonstrate how he utilizes a 1980s Nintendo video game system controller with Ableton Live. The Power Glove controller originally released in 1989, was the first peripheral interface controller to reproduce human hand movements on a television or computer screen in real time.
Yeuda grew up playing keyboards and guitars in the 90s, but as an avid gamer he has always searched for ways to incorporate his love of videogames with his music. In this interview, Yeuda talks about his influences and inspirations, controller designs and interface devices, the similarities between video games and digital audio workstations (DAWs), mapping the Power Glove to control Ableton Live, using Max for Live, using the computer as a musical instrument, and developing a unique voice and presentation within the crowded world of modern electronic music!

Exponential Audio introduces PhoenixVerb and R2 reverb plugins
Exponential Audio has announced PhoenixVerb and R2, which they describe as a pair of high-quality reverb plugins for audio professionals. They say that PhoenixVerb is an easy-to-use neutral reverb appropriate for instrumental, vocal and post-production applications and that it features an attractive user interface, flexible control, and a novel new preset organization method.
Exponential Audio tells us that R2 is an active reverberator, with chorus, gate and flexible equalization and that it features the same keyword-based preset structure as PhoenixVerb as well as the same processor efficiency. Both plugins are cross-platform and multi-format, working both as 32 and 64-bit plugins. On OSX, the AU, VST, RTAS and AAX formats are supported. On Windows, the VST format is supported.
Exponential Audio is a new company founded by longtime audio developer Michael Carnes, who says it is committed to creating powerful tools for demanding professionals.

Track that I made today. Sequenced with the MPC2500. Bassline is the MiniMoog Voyager. Pad is the DSI Prophet 08, lead is the DSI Mopho and the Drums are form the Vermona DRM mkiii.
The Pad is processed with the Moogerfoogers Phaser and MidiMurf. Mopho is processed with the LowPass filter and Analog delay.

Eowave MAGMA – Analog Bassline Synth Released
Eowave tells us that MAGMA is now available. It’s an analogue bassline synthesizer inspired by classical synths from the 1980s which offers the possibility to mix 4 different waveforms (saw, square, sub, noise). Eowave says that the 24 dB low-pass filter is also inspired from classical filters from the 80s.
“To this particular sound of the 80s, we added a touch of modernity with modern controls and parameters saving features. The 16 steps sequencer has 4 rows: 1 for the notes and 3 freely assignable to a parameter of your choice that enables to create living sequences with sonorities like Vince Clark or Jan Hammer.”

- analogue VCO with square saw sub (sub can be 1 or 2 octaves below the master freq), noise.

Thomas Henry’s Controller LFO
Again a very short demo of one of Tomas’ new modules. This video shows just the LFO running in trigger mode, and then in gated mode.
There are only few LFO modules integrating a gate delay and a VCA to create this delayed and inceasing tremolo/vibrato that sounds so musical.
