Eurythmics – Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) – Get That Sound

October 23, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Eurythmics – Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) – Get That Sound

The title track from 1983’s Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) album has one of the most instantly recognisable synth riffs around. There have been many different theories about the synths used on it, but the consensus seems to be that either an Oberheim OB-X was used for both the left and right riffs, or perhaps a Juno-6 and Roland SH-09 for the left and right channel riffs, probably sequenced using a Roland CSQ-100.

I guess asking Eurythmics themselves wasn’t an option 😀

The Beer Cans Keyboard Movie

October 23, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on The Beer Cans Keyboard Movie

Do you have any idea of what you get if you combine 44 beer cans with an Arduino board and a Raspberry PI ?

We will tell you : fantastic user engagement!

We did this at Webstock, event which took place in Bucharest in September. Staropramen, one of the sponsors of the event asked us for an innovative way to offer a trip to Prague to one of the event’s guests.

So, we came up with a keyboard made out of 44 Staropramen beer cans. Each beer can was a key, and whenever someone touched it, the corresponding letter appeared on a large plasma screen (just like any regular computer keyboard).

And the surprise was fantastic! The user experience and engagement overcame any expectation. Every single person who attended Webstock tried the keyboard and participated to the contest.

Behind the scene, the system is built around an Arduino board and a few capacitive controllers (just like the ones which are inside smartphones’ touch screens), connected to a Raspberry PI board which controls the plasma screen display.

A movie and some photos took during the event can be found here –

FL Studio 64 Bit Native Version Testing

October 23, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on FL Studio 64 Bit Native Version Testing

FL Studio 64 bit native version. Release date TBA – http://goo.gl/gqVSs

FL Studio works under 64 Bit Windows and can already host 64 Bit plugins. In addition by using ‘Keep on disk’ with Audio Clips/Sampler Channels AND OR ‘bridging’ 32 Bit plugins you can have access to unlimited memory/sample size and fill your RAM to overflowing, no matter how much you have, using in FL Studio 10 or higher.

This development relates to the core FL Studio application and how it handles memory. It means FL Studio itself can access up to 196 GB of RAM under Windows. It also means 32 Bit plugins will require bridging, this is the same for all 64 Bit software, just as 64 Bit plugins require bridging now under the 32 Bit software.

Finally, the tangible benefits of 64 Bit has little to do with Audio Quality or processing speed (marketing departments have vastly overstated its benefits here).

New Reason Refill from Soundcells: PolysixRE ReFill – Retro Meets Modern!

October 22, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on New Reason Refill from Soundcells: PolysixRE ReFill – Retro Meets Modern!

The original Polysix, introduced in 1981, was a big success because of its warm sound character (as well as other features, of course) – and the same applies to the Polysix Rack Extension. Despite this synth`s quite simple architecture, the Polysix is capable of producing wonderful warm sounding pads, very responsive keys, but also super-dry and fat basses. This Polysix-based ReFill is a proof of this, and it is pure fun to use the 70+ combinators. These combinators, based on 40+ new Polysix patches (and a handful others for Reason´s own synths) are sitting extremly well in any mix. Using all the modularity Reason has to offer, this ReFill will please you with really nice retro but also many modern sounds. No matter your preference – the patches will always do a great job in your tracks.

Further the modwheel & the combinator buttons and knobs are carefully assigned to allow dramatic and effective changes to the default sounds you´ll be hearing initially.

PolysixRE ReFill Contents:

• 72 combinator patches – from retro to modern.

• 45 new Polysix patches containing the basic patches which were used to build combinators.

• Carefully assigned modwheel & combinator button and knobs.

• CPU-friendly and fast loading patches.

Price per Unit is 7,90 ,- EUR

Check out the new psyGEN synth and Circuit multiband waveshape modelling plugins

October 22, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Check out the new psyGEN synth and Circuit multiband waveshape modelling plugins

M-RGT has announced the release of psyGEN, an experimental granular synthesizer plug-in for Windows.

Using granular synthesis as a basis it adds extensive Modulation and FX capabilities to take any type of .wav file source and turn it into a multi-layered composition of great complexity.

With the built-in 16 track sequencer, long evolving ambient/drone sounds can be created and cross-faded with other sounds to create dense tapestries of sound. Also, the sequencer allows for more rhythmic based compositions or patches as well. It is possible to create an entire composition with just one track incorporating many variations.

psyGEN can be used as a standalone synthesizer with a plug-in like SaviHost or similar program or can be installed as a VSTi with a Host DAW.

The psyGEN plug-in for Windows (VST) is available to purchase for $33.50 USD.

Sinevibes has announced the release of Circuit, its latest Audio Unit effect plugin for multiband waveshape modelling.

Circuit splits the signal into three frequency bands, and passes each band through its own processing engine which offers 12 different algorithms – from sine-based waveshape transformers and foldback distortion, to circuit-bent filters, lo-fi and ring modulation. These models can be further modulated by an input envelope follower, tempo-synchronized LFO or two-dimensional Lorenz attractor. All this is wrapped into a stylish, colour-coded interface based on Sinevibes’ innovative design language, which makes it incredibly fun to work with.

Circuit features

  • Morph lifeless waveforms into entirely new, rich and dense sounds.
  • Transform synth basses and leads into completely different, layered material.
  • Re-synthesise and mangle electronic drum loops beyond recognition.

Circuit is available to purchase for $29 USD. It is also included in the Sinevibes plug-in bundle for $119 USD.
