Tangerine Dreams goes ‘under cover’ with Bowie, Kraftwerk, Beatles and more
Out now for the US market is the Tangerine Dream album “Under Cover” via Cleopatra Records. The 14-track collection features founding Tangerine Dream member Edgar Froese and the band re-imagining songs from David Bowie, The Beatles, The Eagles, Chris Isaak, Pink Floyd, Kraftwerk, the Goo Goo Dolls, Leonard Cohen, Depeche Mode, and more.
If you want to hear what to expect, you can already check out “Space Oddity”.
Each member of the band selected the tracks that resonated the best with them. Froese chose “Everybody Hurts,” Space Oddity,” and “Heroes” on which he played synth, mellotron, and provided vocals. Percussionist/drummer Iris Camaa selected “Wicked Game,” “Hotel California,” and “Iris.” Flutist and singer Linda Spa chose “The Model,” “Suzanne,” and “Forever Young.” Thorsten Quaeschning, main vocalist and synth/guitar player, chose “Cry Little Sister,” “Precious,” and “Hallelujah.” Guitarist Bernhard Beibl elected to cover “Norwegian Wood” and “Wish You Were Here.”

Still a week to go for my concert with AKS. I found this beauty setting of the Waldorf Q. Its a nice sample of a full resonant opened filter'(notch). It is controlled by the Moog Little Phatty (by the arpeggiator and the modulation wheel) and the funny thing is that although the Moog isn’t velocity sensitive the keys are and it works perfect for other velocity sensitive MIDI instruments. Its sends also polyfonic. I tweaked some Juno 106 noise together with the Moog sequence.
The solo pieces are from the Concertmate MG-1 and the DS8. The pads came from my favorit DS-8 and a low string sound from the Korg 05r/w. In opposite is the string and e-piano sound from the Lamda. All processed with Lexicon, Yamaha, Ibanez, Alesis and Electrix effects. It is best listened with good audio gear then you here the rich harmonics of the Waldorf, I filmed and recorded everything live without overdubs (I mostly don’t use that).
NovaDroneLights
The NovaDrone was designed (and continues to evolve) in collaboration with experimental musician and epic visionary Lucas Crane aka Nonhorse and with support from Perte De Signal in Montreal.
The Nova Drone is an open source, analog experimental sound and light synth.
It it can be used to create effects ranging from slowly fading drones to chaotic harmonic sequences. It also functions as a complex visual pattern generator when combined with a digital/phone video camera. See the video below for an example of the color patterns generated by holding a camera up to the LED.
The Nova Drones offers 12 potentiometers, 10 switches, 6 oscillators, 9 oscillator sync inputs, 6 frequency modulation inputs and an epic 15 voltage outputs as well as 3 high current outputs for controlling external LEDs. All of the ins and outs have been routed to a prototyping breadboard at the bottom of the unit which allows for liberal experimentation and development of custom circuits. The prototyping area is especially useful for syncing the oscillators of 2 or more Nova Drones together.

Ikeda creates sounds and visuals that are beyond our perception, making excellent use of computer and state-of-art technology. The one day only audiovisual concert takes place in the vast space of Kyoto Art Theater Shunjuza! Based in Paris, Ikeda is one of the world’s leading electronic composers and visual artists and his new work is always eagerly anticipated. His large solo exhibition “+/-[the infinite between 0 and 1]” at Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo and spectra[nagoya], which was done as a massive installation at Nagoya Castle with a high voltage search light that reached the stratosphere (Aichi Triennale 2011), have both left, sonically as well as visually, a great impact on audiences. datamatics [ver.2.0], in which Ikeda uses all sorts of data such as microscopic DNA and molecules all the way to the macroscopic cosmos in an attempt to grasp the world by exploring the limit of human perception, is the final piece of a series that began in 2006. Creating infinite sequences at high speed, he composes the almost violent performance with great precision. Ikeda’s ultra minimalistic world offers a sublime audio-visual experience. In 2013, his new work, superposition, will come to Kyoto for its Japanese premiere.

Modular Synthesizer for AudioCubes: Synthor
Synthor is a new app made in Max/Max for 8 AudioCubes. Synthor is a modular synthesizer application for 8 AudioCubes made in Max/Msp. Percussa is developing the synth in Max, but will very likely build a VST version once they’re happy with thier Max patch. In their modular synthesizer application they’re using 2 sides of the audiocube as an input and 2 sides of the audiocubes as an output. To make it more easy to remember which side of the cube is the input and which one is the output, they’ve put stickers on top of every cube. The black lines indicate the 2 outputs, and the other sides of the cubes are the inputs.
