B-Line 303 – new acid bass sound synth
Sonic XTC lets us know that their new monophonic bass line synthesizer, B-Line 303, captures the vibe and sound of classic EDM and Acid techno music synthesizers from the 70’s and 80’s. They say that B-Line 303 can easily dial up the classic Acid bass sound with all the squelch and buzz of the original classics, giving producers the unique ability to shape their sound with sub oscillators, distortion, distortion intensity, and built in Waveshaper unit. B-Line 303 comes with 14 presets to get you started but has room for up to 64 user presets. In the beginning of the song B-Line 303 sounds like your standard Roland TB 303. In the middle of the song it sounds like a Roland SH-101. At the end of the song the B-Line 303 gives you a glimpse of why we think it is special! Only used Deep 606, Deep Mono, and B-Line 303 to create this track. Side chain compression on the Deep 606 kick only external effect used.

Tony Monaco’s Blues Scale on Organ
A classic lesson from 2007, B3 expert Tony Monaco shares his tips on blues scales on the Hammond organ.
The blues scale refers to several different scales with differing numbers of pitches and related characteristics. The hexatonic, or six note, blues scale consists of the minor pentatonic scale plus the ♯4th or ♭5th degree. A major feature of the blues scale is the use of blue notes, however, since blue notes are considered alternative inflections, a blues scale may be considered to not fit the traditional definition of a scale. At its most basic, a single version of this “blues scale” is commonly used over all changes (or chords) in a twelve bar blues progression. Likewise, in contemporary jazz theory, its use is commonly based upon the key rather than the individual chord.

In this sampling-for-beginners tutorial renowned violinist and electronic music performer Laura Escud takes you through the very basics of sampling using Ableton Lives stock sampler, Simpler. She starts you off with an overview detailing the history of audio sampling from its nascent beginnings with the famous Fairlight CMI through to software samplers of the present day.
From there youre off to a zoomed-in, zoomed-out look at the Simpler Plugin that is included with every copy of Live. Laura takes you through all of Simplers parameters from envelopes to LFOs showing you how they work and how she uses them in her music. She discusses the differences between Simpler and Lives premium instrument, Sampler … and also shows you how they work together!
Finally, Laura, includes a few workshops where she divulges the arcana behind her Cello Wobble sound and how to use Simpler in an Instrument Rack. Laura then puts it all together with a triptych of videos showing how she uses Simpler in her live performances.

Information on their website tells that the band have “taken a turn for the noir” and are pursuing a more acoustic direction, with Alison Goldfrapp saying: “I’m drawn more and more to the intimacy and simplicity of the voice & guitar.”
She adds: “When you’re relaxed and confident you can excavate places you may not have dared go before […] I am interested in horror, psychologically. Not blood and guts. That’s too literal. I like the horror of the mind.”
