Ghost Rider Modular

November 17, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Ghost Rider Modular

Mr. Hand demos a synthesizers.com patch utilizing a CatGirl Synth Sub Octave Divider module. The sequence is a facsimile of Suicide’s song Ghost Rider done with a Synthesizers.com Q119 Sequential Controller. It’s not the complete riff since Marty Rev’s riff is poly-rhythmic and I could only use 8 steps of the analog sequencer. The organ-like tonality is from the CGS Sub-Octave module which can function similarly to the divide down technology used in electric organs.

c2 -wt1 cv gamma wave source
c3 -wt2 cv gamma wave source
c4 -monotribe sync in
c5 -para cv gamma wave source

the sounds you hear are from the output of the korg monotribe with no aditional processing

Product feature – MFB Step sequencer:

SEQ-02 is specialized in rhythm- and sequence programming.

SEQ-02 can be used as a sequencer with 6 CV- and 6 gate-outputs. Alternatively, it may also be used with either 12 CV- or 12 gate-/trigger-outputs. SEQ-02 allows creating 16 sequences with up to 32 steps each. The sequences can be stored and offer 6 or 12 tracks. In addition, an A- and B-part allows building 2-bar-sequences using the A/B-switch. Use trigger impulses at inputs “Sequence +“ and “Sequence –“ to switch to adjacent sequences. Start/stop and tempo (clock) can be either controlled directly at the module or remote-controlled through external signals. Of course, SEQ-02’s start/stop and clock can act as a master for other sequencers. The RESET-input allows switching the current sequence back to step 1.

Beyond using SEQ-02 to trigger drums and envelopes, there are countless options for trigger-impulses in a modular environment. These may be used for sample&hold, switches, clock-dividers/sequencers or logic-modules. This allows to create rhythmic events, where usually a straight clock would be used for triggering, e.g. in S&H- or clock-dividing-modules. Thanks to the big number of CV- and trigger-tracks, SEQ-02 will always allow for some extra assignments beside the drum-groove.

The module has a width of 100 mm (20 TE).

Quick demo of the Solaris synth

November 15, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Quick demo of the Solaris synth

John Bowen Synth Design started the process of developing the Soalris synth some 7 years ago:

The general concept behind the Solaris synthesizer is to implement something like a giant wall-sized modular system entirely in software where you can select among several completely different types of oscillators and filters, exquisitely modelled after the components culled from a variety of legendary vintage synthesizers of yesteryear and even some current virtual analog innovations of today. With up to four oscillators, four filters, four amplifiers, four four-input mixers, six envelope generators, one looping envelope generator, five LFOs, two vector mixers and still more of these software modules available in each program, the Solaris synthesizer becomes absolutely unrivalled in terms of versatility and programmability.

Solaris is a synthesizer designed to live up to the idea of ‘no compromises’:

  • Flexible as a modular system, but easier to use – with five 2 x 40 character display sections, one 240 x 64 graphic display, and 40 knobs, the Solaris is capable of great depth in sound manipulation, but designed to be as easy to use as the vintage synths of the past for which John Bowen is known.
  • Sound quality is paramount – newly created synthesis algorithms provide unparalleled quality; signal processing handled by SHARC floating-point processors. Internal processing is done at 96 kHz; audio rate modulation provided with sample-accurate precision.
  • The Solaris is a purchase which will last for years, through new algorithm “expansion packs” and OS updates.

Cool sound textures generated by SoundMashine

November 14, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Cool sound textures generated by SoundMashine

SoundMashine is a granular synthesis based sound sampling and sequencing app for the iPhone and iPad. This video demonstrates some of the sound textures that can be generated from a basic input source, in this case the tapping of a table surface and rattling of a cup.

Description

SoundMashine is a granular synthesis based sound sampling and sequencing instrument. Fully utilising touch gestures to provide a fast and easy to use compositional tool.  The app records sound using the devices built-in microphone, then using a beat slicing process divides the sound and automatically assigns the slices to each of the 16 screen tiles. Each tile has its own set of parameters allowing you to adjust window size, playback rate, pitch, feedback, delay and delay modulation, all of which are easily set by the swipe of a finger. Each parameter listed can also be randomised between a set of assignable values. This flexibility allows you to build up a palette of sounds which can be stretched and processed to the extreme allowing rich and diverse creations far removed from the input source .. if so desired.

In addition the built-in sequencer allows you to record patterns of tiles that can be played back at different speeds, again using simple touch gestures. If you add in the parameter randomisation functions to this, diverse and changeable sequences can be produced. With its flexibility for working with sound at different pitches, rates and sequencer speeds, SoundMashine lends itself well to a variety of compositional paradigms, from beat based through to drone or noise based music forms.

Polyoptics: OctaTest – Octratrack, op1

November 14, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Polyoptics: OctaTest – Octratrack, op1

“Testing out the octatrack. The loops are taken from a track I had laid out on the op1.
I am still figuring out the work flow, but in this case, after assigning the loops to tracks, I used the scenes functionality to play out the track live instead of patterns.
The octratack has freed this tune from being locked up in the op1. Next time I will get into patterns and banks more.”

The Octatrack is an 8 track performance sampler. Recording of sounds is a breeze thanks to the intuitive user interface, but the fun really starts once the samples are inside the machine. All audio content can be heavily processed and radically transformed. Loops do not have to be restricted by tempo or tone and can always stay in sync no matter if they are pitch shifted or if the tempo of the sequencer is changed. The inflexible nature of samples is finally a thing of the past.

Animoog Polypony + XY Control Demo

November 9, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Animoog Polypony + XY Control Demo

“Everyone is going bonkers over the the Animoog synth itself. Not much focus on the incredible job Moog did on the polyphonic keyboard and XY controller. Its easy to over look, but watch and listen for independent control of volume and pitch for each note. So you can have a fast attack touch at the top of the bar, or start at no/low volume and fade in for slow attack. Addtionally, you can bend the pitch note to note for smooth runs.”
