Copy/Paste and Loop Player
Using Alchemy with other apps like NanoStudio and Garageband is easy, thanks to the included loop player. Simply paste a loop from your sequencer into Alchemy Player, hit record, and play in your killer bass part, and then paste the resulting loop back into the sequencer. Alchemy Player is the first iPhone app to feature exposé, which makes switching between pages a breeze.

The RS-09 is an analog string and organ synthesizer (similar to the Saturn-09 which only produced an organ sound). It’s old, it’s cheap and they’re usually worth finding! The string sound and organ sounds are nice, fatty analog sounds. The organ and string sections can be played simultaneously or individually. An ensemble/chorus effect and external sound input are welcome features. But aside from all this, there isn’t much else left to this synth. A simple 2-vco architecture with simple and limited editable parameters, no patch memory and a small keyboard.
There are three versions of this unit. The one shown above is a V.3. The differences are mainly cosmetic and in the control surface; the V.3 uses touch-switches, the V.1 uses rockers and tends to be more reliable due to that. This instrument can be found for around $100, and they could add a nice flavor to any modern analog-electronic keyboard studio.

ANIMOOG demo, with TENORI-ON
Here’s a detailed description of what is going on:
I’d rather play it with DOTS than use a keyboard like the rest! To do this was easy, if you have a USB MIDI device like this Alesis IO Dock – I plugged the MIDI OUT dongle on my Tenori-On W to a standard MIDI cable, then to the MIDI IN on the IO Dock. Start up Animoog, and press “SETUP” on the top bar. Press “Refresh MIDI Input(s)” if necessary. Then I selected the option “dock” from the list below. Then I pressed the “X/Y PAD” word on the top bar to go back to playing mode. The Animoog “listened” to the MIDI notes from Layer 1 of my Tenori-On, as if it was any keyboard! I then used layer 2, etc. to add drums and such, while my right hand operated the AniMoog’s amazing touch pad and other controls. Enjoy these 3 jams! Which get more complex as the video goes on. SoundMashine is a granular synthesis based sound sampling and sequencing instrument.
Fully utilising touch gestures to provide a fast and easy to use compositional tool. The app records sound using the devices built-in microphone, then divides the sound into slices which are then automatically assigned to each of the 16 screen tiles. Each tile has its own set of parameters allowing you to adjust window size, playback rate, pitch, feedback, delay and delay modulation, all of which are easily set by the swipe of a finger. Each parameter listed can also be randomised between a set of assignable values. Using the sequencer function patterns of tiles can be recorded and played back at different speeds, again using simple touch gestures.
With its flexibility for working with sound at different pitches, rates and sequencer speeds, SoundMashine lends itself well to a variety of compositional paradigms, from beat based through to drone or noise based music forms.
