About the synth:
The AN1x is a powerful retro-analog synth with a really cool new feature that lets you record real-time editing and filtering and be able to store it as part of the sound! A major contender in the new wave of analog-digital synths using DSP modeling of analog waveforms to recreate the coveted sounds of analog synths with modern digital specifications. It offers truly traditional yet modern methods of analog synthesizing, 10 notes of polyphony, 8 knobs for tweaking, and an arpeggiator with dozens of inspiring patterns!
Although the AN1x is not a follow-up to the CS1x (which has since been followed by the CS2x and the CS6x) it has borrowed many functions and technologies from the CS1x synth. First, it’s built in an almost identical case with the same layout of buttons and knobs as the CS1x. However the function of every knob and button has been greatly expanded. The AN1x also has 2 Scene memories for instant recall of any envelope and filter settings and the mod-wheel can be used to morph between the two scenes. On-board effects and a state-of-the-art arpeggiator section also are on-board for giving your sounds life and motion.
The AN1x adds a new Ribbon controller for increased real-time control. It also includes pulse width modulation, ring modulation and oscillator syncing. The AN1x may not be the next evolution of the CS1x but it is basically a more advanced synth capable of increased sound potential and quality. It has a better feeling keyboard than the CS1x as well assuming that the AN1x is for those looking for something more professional than the CS1x.
Brand new video from Recoil : ‘Inheritance’
In the spirit of Talk Talk 
A brand new film has been made to accompany Recoil’s ‘Inheritance’ (featuring Linton Kwesi Johnson & Paul Marshall). It was shot in Moscow and directed & edited by Recoil collaborator Dmitry Semenov who was responsible for so many memorable images from ‘A Strange Hour’.
Says Alan: “I just sent the track to Dmitry, offering up a few of my own thoughts, but basically giving him a free reign to interpret the music and words in any way he saw fit. He sent me his rough ideas and work-in-progress, and I gave some feedback about the images I thought worked best. We tried to create two very different atmospheres to compliment the dark oppressive feel of the verses contrasted against the more epic, expansive chorus – hence the switch from claustrophobic interiors into open space and white snow as the film comes to its conclusion.”
‘Inheritance’ is one of two tracks – the other being a cover of ‘Dum Dum Girl’ – which Recoil has contributed to ‘Spirit Of Talk Talk ’. As well as the various featured vocalists, a group of musicians all connected with Talk Talk were placed on hand to help out with the recordings. One such contributor for ‘Inheritance’ was none other than Dean Garcia (bass), ex of Curve, and who also played on Recoil’s ‘Liquid’ album back in 2000.
Alan Wilder has been acting as the musical & production supervisor for the Talk Talk tribute album which features more than 30 artists, including: Recoil, Zero 7, Shara Worden, Joan As Police Woman, Sean Carey (Bon Iver), Richard Reed Parry (Arcade Fire), Fyfe Dangerfield (Guillemots), Thomas Feiner, The Black Ships, Lights, White Lies, King Creosote, Jason Lytle (Grandaddy) and many more. The double album will be released by Fierce Panda on September 3rd 2012.
NORD DRUM Synth Edit
Nord Drum is a four part/three layer synthesizer with separate control for Click, Noise and Tone; there’s a lot of internal parameter for sculpting the “percussive” sound. Too sad, in V 1.0 there’s no capability for remote MIDI programming… The line out of Nord Drum goes straight into digital recorder and you’ll need some subwoofer or some decent monitors to hear the bass frequencies coming out from this babe…

Amos Gaynes and the Power of Modular Synthesis – Moogfest 2010
Amos Gaynes, New Product Specialist at Moog Music, Inc., explains that now is the best time in history to use modular synthesis. This talk was part of a larger panel on modular synthesis presented at Moogfest 2010 in Asheville, NC. The panel, conceptualized by the Bob Moog Foundation, also featured Erik Norlander and August Worley and highlighted Erik’s 22 oscillator modular Moog synthesizer, affectionately known as the Wall of Doom (seen in the background).

There are two main differences between the EMW-200 and the EML-200. The first is that on the EML-200 there is a MIC AMP module that is nothing more than a microphone amplifier. In the 70s the mixers were very expensive pieces of equipment and having a mic amp nearby could have seemed a good idea. On our EMW-200 we replaced this module with a LFO or Low Frequency Oscillator that can be used to modulate the VCOs or other modules on the machine.
The second difference is that on the old EML they used a spring tank on the Reverb module that on our model was replaced with a Digital Delay line. The main reason that lead us to do that is that the spring tank is a sensitive device that can suffer damage from excessive vibration and the ones that produce a good reverb effect are the big ones. Adding a spring tank to our project, and doing it the right way, would raise the equipment dimensions and final price to an unacceptable level.
After some consideration, several tests and a special design for our delay unit we decided to use this module. It was carefully designed to have a vintage sound and was proved to extend the equipment possibilities and timbral range
