Combined drum machine and bass synth

June 15, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Combined drum machine and bass synth

Cerebrum is a pattern based drum machine with an onboard bassline synth. There are 8 drums total, each with it’s own sequencer with various randomization and velocity features. Designed with live operation in mind, Cerebrum can be used for making complex beats on the fly, with features like the Pattern Playlist and Random Probability, that ensure your rhythms stay interesting. Your beats can then be sent into the Multi-Band FX processor, split into three bands, distorted, crushed and destroyed and then squashed with the overall compressor for getting that classic ‘pumping’ effect with ease.

Cerebrum:c4 features

  • 8 drum modules.
  • Bass arp-synth module.
  • Versatile sequencers for each drum module including bass synth.
  • Pattern Playlist feature for switching between 4 patterns, manually or automatically.
  • Random Probability options for each sequencer.
  • Aux module for external audio processing.
  • Multi-Band FX section with compressor.

New stuff from Rob Papen

May 29, 2009 · Posted in Electronic Music · Comments Off on New stuff from Rob Papen

Spotted this intersting story on the net today, and based on what Papen has delivered before I believe this is well worth waiting for:

Just recently Rob Papen released his latest VSTi SubBoomBass. However that doesn’t mean he is leaning back and enjoying some rest. At this time he is very busy working on another project (together with RPCX). Not a virtual instrument but an effect plugin.

The new project is a reverb plugin. It will not be a ‘convolution reverb’. This reverb is based on a new algorithm by RCPX (Rob Papen and Jon Ayres). What we know already is that it gives the processed audio a surprisingly warm sound and new types of colouring. An early comment from Armin van Buuren was that it sounded ‘bizarly good’.

However, as we learned from Rob, this new reverb plugin is still in development. Layout, GUI and even the name still have to be finalised. Details on beta testing, specifications or release are still unknown. As soon as Rob releases more info you’ll find it here.

SubBoomBass !

SubBoomBassSubBoomBass is filled with excessive amounts of low end ammunition to detonate your tracks! With presets designed by Rob Papen and other guest artists, this dedicated bass synth will supply you with huge cone-rattling sounds that will devastate any dancefloor.
SubBoomBass has been carefully crafted to provide you with the tools to create fresh new bass lines for any musical style.
Rob Papen again displays his cutting edge and innovative style by combining the ‘phat’ sounding synth engine with tuned drum percussion samples and rare samples.

Other features include a groove sequencer and two effects slots which can be modulated. SubBoomBass also features a great ‘Easy Mode’ page and the unique ‘Quick Browser’ system that will allow you to find the sounds you need quickly and easily. Great for Hip Hop and RnB, this software instrument can also be used for Dubstep, Drum and Bass, Garage, Grime and much more.

Want to know more about Bass?

Found this great blog poste on the subject, however if you are very concerned about lightly dressed women (it’s perfectly safe, but still) than remain here and get the summary :-)

The double bass and the bass guitar have their use, but sine waves are absolutely crucial in bass science. Producers who don’t have them in their toolkit might as well pack up and leave. Here’s what they sound like

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igGroIcga3g&eurl=http://dubshot.blogspot.com/2008/10/basswatch-3-cult-of-sine-wave-enter.html&feature=player_embedded]

Abstract:
And here’s what a sine wave looks like. The original meaning of the word sinus in ancient Latin is bosom and the curves of the sine wave look feminine indeed. But times change. Nowadays when people hear a heavy bass they usually picture a big bottom. And what’s even more puzzling: while a low frequency sine wave may sound like a fat ass, a high frequency sine wave sounds thinner than the skinniest supermodel. That’s the mystery side of the sine wave i’ll try to explain here.

Travis Huckins once again has provided CombinatorHQ the ability to display his wonderful talent for sound design in his newest refill “Alien Music Factory”.

This refill is packed with Combinators clearly organized for easy navigation such as Bass, Pads, Organs, Leads, Arps and many more. It stays amzingly true to it’s theme having Pads sounding spacey, Drums being synthetic and mechanical and Strings awkwardly eerie and sometimes serene.

This is a very pleasureable and meaty refill at just over 200MB!

Features :

  • Authentic monophonic analog bassline emulation
  • Easy-to-use interface
  • Oscillator with saw/square waveforms
  • 18 dB/oct. analog modeled multimode filter, lowpass/highpass/bandpass modes
  • Sequencer with piano roll, accent & slide
  • Variable pattern length (1-16)
  • Advanced randomize functions
  • 16x oversampled distortion with minimum aliasing (soft, hard clipping, soft foldback, hard foldback)
  • Optimized DSP code using SIMD instructions
  • Customizable MIDI CC automation

What the manufacturers claim:

At the beginning of the 80s, a new bass synth appeared on the market. Aimed at bass-guitarists, it featured an in-built sequencer with slides and accents. Only about a decade later did it become one of the most popular instruments in certain styles of acid, techno, house and trance music. Since that, numerous copies and software and hardware emulations have been born, which all try to grasp the character of this wonderful synth. We did our best to reincarnate this instrument as an authentic-sounding, convenient and easy-to-use VSTi plugin. Countless hours were spent on analysis and measurements, with the goal of making the most-authentic sounding emulation. As a result of the research, SilverBox was born, 25 years after the creation of the machine.
