C64 VST

March 7, 2008 · Posted in Electronic Music · 1 Comment

I have received quite a few questions on the recently posted C64 VST and if there is something similar that will run on a MAC, well there is (of course) I just think the other one had a somewhat more intuitive user interface and a little better sounding as well.

But for you all MAC and C64 lovers here is your alternative:

On the pic below you will see Mr. Android himself and the former band member Johan (can´t remember what he called himself …noid something I guess, hehe). Too bad Eddie B didn´t show up.

New album from the Danish act – "Printer"

March 6, 2008 · Posted in Electronic Music · Comments Off on New album from the Danish act – "Printer"

Not only is Adrian Recordings continually stretching into new genres, they’re also entering new territories! Printer is a 4-piece electronic/techno act from Denmark and this is their full-length debut.

Order here >>

Printer is a 4-piece band formed as a regular post-rock band but after the first two weeks, the drummer was up behind a keyboard and the guy brought in as guitar player never left his laptop. Getting more and more integrated as a band by interconnecting instruments through the computer, the name Printer became the best way to parallel this merge between digital and analogue.

On recent works the band has taken a more dirty and danceable, say techno, approach, although still maintaining the emotional and intellectual focus. It’s music to be moved by whether it’ll be on the dance floor or in your couch. It’s electronic pop music at its best. And it’s got power and depth. In addition to that the band really throws on sweaty live shows. They claim to be tired of starring at the floor while playing and instead they raise their heads, lift their hands in the air and lose themselves to the floor. Numerous shows in Denmark, at the Norberg Festival and recently in Malmö together with Familjen, have strengthened them to a full proofed elegant transcendental party banger.

Nice review of Ableton Live 7 in MacMusic

March 4, 2008 · Posted in Electronic Music · Comments Off on Nice review of Ableton Live 7 in MacMusic

session_view.gif

It’s hard to believe, but Live 7 is already there. The miracle software from Berlin-based Company Ableton, both a tracker and a sequencer at the same time, is constantly evolving: we were just beginning to control Live 6 and its numerous new features when its follower arrived, of course filled with improvements and surprises. Throughout this article we’ll try to see, apart from describing the new functions, if Live 7 fills the gaps left by the previous version, what it brings and what it removes from our music, on stage and in the studio.

Read the whole story here >>

New in Live 7

Version 7 Renews the Core of Live

image Enhanced Audio EngineLive 7’s enhanced audio engine improves fidelity with precision 64-bit summing at all mix points throughout the program, POW-r dithering, optimized sample-rate conversion and other advances.

image New CompressorThe new compressor device integrates the compression models of Compressor I and II, and offers a new model based on a feedback design commonly found in the most praised vintage compressors.

image SidechainingFully integrated side-chaining capability is available for the new Compressor as well as Gate and Auto Filter.

image Device High-Quality ModesOperator, Dynamic Tube and Saturator now feature optional High-Quality modes for anti-aliased processing, reducing typical “digital” artifacts.

image EQ Eight—New and ImprovedEQ Eight sports an improved user interface and a new 64-bit mode for increased accuracy and fidelity.

image Introducing SpectrumThe new Spectrum device is an analyzer that provides real-time visual feedback for any audio signals within Live (and it looks really cool!).

image Improved MIDI TimingThe MIDI engine has been reworked, and we were able to significantly reduce timing error (jitter) of recorded MIDI.

image Easy Hardware IntegrationHardware integration has been streamlined with the addition of two new devices—External Instrument and External Audio Effect—allowing hardware synthesizers and effects to be inserted into device chains just like software plug-ins.

New album from Herr A and Herr B

March 3, 2008 · Posted in Electronic Music · Comments Off on New album from Herr A and Herr B

systemsos.jpg

Swedish duo Herr A and Herr B aka System was nominated for best electronic album in 2006 for their album “Sample and Hold”. March 26 marks the release of their third CD “Self Organising System” (will also be released as a double CD in a limited edition).

About them

SYSTEM was formed in the early nineties from the ashes of the group Die von Kempelens (DvK). DvK took their name from a hungarian inventor from the 18th century and programmed up-beat minimal synth pop. DvK never released anything officially but got a small underground hit with their song “Machines in Love” which was played rather frequently at the clubs in Stockholm at the time.

Later DvK slowly shifted into SYSTEM and Herr A and Herr B, the two former members of DvK and now, the members of SYSTEM, started working in a slightly different direction. Where DvK was a hobby band, SYSTEM was for real. And where DvK songs, although being very good, were badly and sometimes sloppily produced and thought through, SYSTEMs songs were the opposite.

The two gentlemen A and B locked themselves in their laboratory for quite some time and soon a couple of demoes saw the light of day. The demoes were called (in chronological order): “Music for machines”, “Artificial intelligence”, “Human/Machine interface”, “Fuzzy logic” and “Silicon based EP”. These demoes were, however, not distributed commercially in any way and the number of copies of each is very low (probably below 10 copies/demo). Then suddenly one day someone who was organising a concert happened to hear one of the demos and he got so excited with what he had heard that he insisted on that SYSTEM should come and play at his venue – which they did.

Since this last release SYSTEM has been busy with touring and has also contributed tracks to a number of compilations both in Sweden and abroad.
