Kraftwerk snippets on the original Vako Orchestron
Playing some snippets of “Trans-Europe Express” by Kraftwerk letting you hear the Orchestron’s “Violins” sound.
The sound you hear is the actual sound used by Kraftwerk.
Playing some snippets of Radioactivity (Kraftwerk) demonstrating the “Vocal Choir” sound of the Orchestron.
This sound is the exact sound (not a replica, it IS this sound) Kraftwerk used on Radioactivity and a small number of other songs.
As you can hear, I’ve got some problems with pitch stability. This is due to a worn out belt that connects the motor and the wheel that actually spins the record.

The thing underneath the Orchestron is the Eminent 1600 Orchestra. This is not the intrument used by Jean-Michel Jarre (that’s the 310U) thought it features the same sounds, and has a built in String Ensemble which is more or less the same than the Arp Solina String Ensemble. As you can see, I’ve got some problems with the contacts of the bass pedals.

Artists Leisure-B and Usselino collaborated on this Autechre-inspired audiovisual short, filled with pulsing geometric primitives. The work is a kind of A/V composition, the music arranged with abrupt, video-style edits. For fans of Native Instruments’ thick-sounding Massive synth, you also get some free preset downloads in the deal.
With Native Instruments’ software providing the sound palette, Ableton Live became a context for editing the music as you would video:
Leisure: “I tried to approach the composition as “sound design” as possible. Since the video was animated on the BPM (117) and rhythmical accents of “Vose On”, all I really had to do drum wise was find out which accents Usselino had used for his main video events. After creating the drums on those accents, most of the composition was just tweeking knobs and experimenting with note placement.
Since Ableton Live has excellent video support, I could just run the video in the loop region I was working in, and experiment with Native Instrument’s Massive’s great synthesizing capabilities. I usually start of with an init patch, and work my way towards the sound which I feel is fitting for the events in the video. The only exception to this rule however is the second bassline, which originates from Durk Kooistra’s WODAN bass, available for download in his 10 Free Massive Patches”

The ‘game’ is a zero-player game, meaning that its evolution is determined by its initial state, requiring no further input from humans. One interacts with the Game of Life by creating an initial configuration and observing how it evolves.
You can draw single cells or a predefined pattern stamp on a two dimensional grid. This pattern will evolve according to the rules of “Conway’s Game of Life” after you press ‘play’ or ‘step forward’. Five different colors each represent a different sound or channel.
Runxt Life uses the output of the grid, affected by a few parameters, to either generate sounds or send midi notes to your computer with the help of the Runxt Life – OSC to MIDI application. In this application you can configure which color is sent to which midi channel.
