Waldorf announces the Pulse 2 Analog Synthesizer
Waldorf has introduced the Pulse 2, a new analog synthesizer featuring cutting edge and powerful lows in one compact box.
Sometimes they do come back, and this time, it’s with even more brute-strength power onboard. You are looking at a completely analog synthesizer that accurately delivers what synthesizer enthusiasts around the world truly crave. Pulse 2 is the reincarnation of it’s legendary ancestor, the Waldorf Pulse, that dominated the electronic music of the 90s.
Three analog oscillators in combination with a true analog cascading filter is what Pulse and Pulse 2 have in common. But we didn’t stop there. The filter circuits now also offer Highpass and Bandpass modes. We added analog Filter FM and Ring Modulation along with paraphonic modes that allow up to eight voice chords.
Like the Blofeld Synthesizer, the Pulse 2 is housed in a sturdy metal desktop case. Besides its large LCD display, 8 stainless steel knobs are available to surf through its clearly arrayed parameter matrix, set master volume and edit display accessible parameters.

Casio has introduced two new keyboard synthesizers at the Winter NAMM, the XW-G1 Groove Synthesizer and the XW-P1 Performance Synthesizer, here are the full specs for both of them:
The Casio XW-G1 is a ‘groove synthesizer’ equipped with a keyboard and designed to offer the various kinds of digital equipment used by club DJs, including the ability to create and play back a variety of rhythm patterns and musical phrases.

- 100 different rhythm patterns are available for playback in the preset sequences
- Up to 100 original rhythm patterns can be recorded as user sequences
- Users can improvise using the set of 16 buttons while playing back rhythm patterns
- Multiple rhythm patterns—as many as 99—can be connected in a sequence and played as loops using the Chains function
- Phrase Sequencer
- 100 musical phrases can be readily played back using the preset phrases

ScoreCleaner – Plug-and-play notation
ScoreCleaner is a live scoring tool that notates your music automatically. Just plug in your MIDI instrument/keyboard, play and let ScoreCleaner render.
ScoreCleaner changes the paradigm of notation softwares. Where earlier formats forced users to have a large pre knowledge of a piece of music to be able to notate properly ScoreCleaner allows the user so simply plug a MIDI based keyboard into their computer and play to render a notation. ScoreCleaner will automatically detect time signature, key, clef, tempo, note values etc. and simply notate the playing it receives. Virtually live. The user doesn’t have to rely on click tracks or other guiding tools in order for the software to understand the music and interpret it for notation.
“ScoreCleaner is unique in that will allow a user to play freely and end up seconds later with a useful score for a wide variety of musical styles” says Sven Ahlback. “ScoreCleaner will even notate non-metrical music, composite time signatures, rubato, something that has been quite unthinkable in decades past”.
Because ScoreCleaner notates on the fly rather than being designed for manually feeding the software with note values it becomes open to a number of uses.
ScoreCleaner can offer scoring and editing possibilities to become the main notation format for a user or it can work as a complement to other notation and sequencer formats. ScoreCleaner exports its notations and its interpretations to MIDI as well as MusicXML.

Alesis Vortex – the first USB/MIDI keytar controller
I am personally not very keen on keytars – I think they are quite a silly hybrid between the two and this one is not even a proper synth merely a controller, but for those of you who enjoy these, here’s a brand new one from Alesis featured at the ongoing WNAMM show:
