Following the tradition of wavetable synthesis – from first PPG synthesizers to the latest developments in terms of Blofeld and Largo – and utilising Rolf Wöhrmann’s (TempoRubato) experience with iPad synthesis, Waldorf & Wöhrmann have come up with a wavetable concept for the iPad.
Thanks to intelligent gesture recognition and plenty of available graphic performance the iPad is perfect for bringing wavetable synthesis to a new level. For the first time it will be possible to plunge into the depths of wavetables and to make their sound content visible with 3D technology.
The cooperation between Waldorf and TempoRubato, also known for their product line NLog Synth, doesn’t stop here: the application will also offer new possibilities for sound manipulation based on Waldorf’s very latest spectral research.
Completely new and unheard sounds
An innovative approach to wavetable synthesis allows for the transposition of the spectrum and the balance of periodic and sound spectra entirely independent from a wave’s position. The existing wavetable technology is thereby extended by two new dimensions, and allows for formant shifts as well as numerous other unheard sounds. Also, unlike with typical wavetable instruments, the number and length of waves in a wavetable will no longer be restricted. It’s the era of wavetable synthesis V2.0!
This app will support a huge number of hardware MIDI interfaces, e. g. all Core MIDI compatible interfaces by IK Multimedia, iConnectMIDI, MIDI Mobilizer II by Line6, ioDock or the Camera Connection Kit by Apple, as well as proprietary interfaces such as the SynthStation by Akai.
App collaboration standards like Sonoma‘s Audio Copy/Paste, Intua‘s Audio Pasteboard and Virtual Core MIDI will also be supported like the upcoming AudioBus standard and KORG’s WIST synchronization technology.

Closer look at ControlAble – multitouch controller for Ableton Live
ControlAble is a multitouch controller for Ableton Live. ControlAbles display includes track names, clip names, clip colours, clip playing status, mixer controls, device rack controls, tempo, and transport controls. All controls are mapped automatically so no more need for midi assign.

micromac with dual sv filter demonstration
Background info:
Here’s a video that I’ve just done of the micromac prototype loaded into a 3U Eurorack housing- Featured with it is the MacBeth X-Series Dual SV Filter- they make an interesting match! At times there is plenty of ‘ah yah ah yah ah yah’ sounds! Two oscillators were taken from the micromac and plugged into the Dual SV- the Vortex prototype pvides us with LFO modulation here!
Apologies for the indistinct talking through this one- toothache!! has set in! Anyway- I hope you enjoy this pure analogue example of synth stuff!

Tek’it Audio has announced the release of Arp-EG Classic, a MIDI arpeggiator plug-in. Using Arp-EG classic all the VST instruments you like and even your hardware synths (using your DAW MIDI out) can now play arpeggio sequence.
Use the six playback modes and the four octave range, speed up or slow down your arpeggio sync on the beat of your DAW. Control the groove using the shuffle and gate function, control the expression with the transpose function, give to each note his one velocity, play polyphonic chord or notes sequence. Assign all the parameters to your MIDI controller easily and randomly generate your arp with a single click.

Vernal Season – modular systems and more in action
And here are the details:
The last few weeks I have been trying to make a video. Did many takes resulting in 3 takes which were acceptable but I was not convinced that one of the three was good enough. So this evening I decided to do something completely different which resulted in this improvisation. And I did this in 1 take.
The video begins with two 8-step sequences: one sequence on row 2 of the Doepfer MAQ16/3 which is driving the self-built Modular and one sequence on the Synthesizers.com Q960 which is driving the Rob Hordijk OSC HRM and the Ian Fritz Teezer Through-Zero VCO connected to the Blacet Miniwave. The bass is performed on the Clavia Nord Lead 1, the Mellotron strings sound is played on the Roland XP-80 and the Wurlitzer piano sound on the Waldorf Q Keyboard. Later on a 4 step sequence from row 1 of the MAQ16/3 driving the Creamware MiniMax ASB joins.
